Documentary Miss Representation

"Miss Representation" is a documentary film about how the media has a big influence on the way people view women. Throughout the film, we are exposed to the truth about what magazines, t.v., and other media sources and the effect they have on us. Girls, teenagers, and women are looked upon as "items" now and are compared to "how we should look". Models on the cover of magazines is how  the society expects everyone to look like. If we don't, then we're not perfect and people find things to trash talk about. This image of a "perfect" women is imprinted on everyone's brain and even the girls themselves try to change their self. This is the reason why girls become anorexic and then they are made fun of, when all they're really trying to do is look like someone the society would accept. Girls are pushed to look and act a certain way and this is also what makes guys act a certain way. Guys are expected to be tough, strong, and not show emotion because if you do, that would make you less of a man.
I really don't think it's necessary for advertisements to have these models in bikinis, half naked to sell their products. It's not appropriate for kids who also watch t.v. and just happens to stumble across these during commercials. From a very young age, kids are already trained to view people judgmentally and critically without getting to know their story.

Recap of my interview

So far, I'm very proud of my improvements on the community run.
I went from 27 minutes (last year) to 20 minutes and 45 seconds (first community run this semester) to
18 minutes and 45 seconds (second community run this sem.)
I feel like my fitness is really improving from all the cardio exercises we do and I've also reached level 10 on the beep test for the first time last week, which I'm also very proud of.

I've learned that if you put in the time and effort each day, your health and fitness level will improved.
Pushing yourslef to keep going can be very hard, and at times I felt like I've reached my max. but I pushed myself and realised i haven't.

My goals for the end of this course are : getting to at least level 10.6, finishing the community run in 18 minutes, and i hope to keep active after the semester ends.

October Reflection

It's been two months since I've been in Get Fit and I'm really enjoying all the field trips and fun workouts we do, including dance. We learned a hip hop combo and the moves were really complicated but then very last time we went through the dance, i got all the moves right on time.
We also went to do tae kwon do and it was really fun, learning self defense. It also made me want to learn more.
We did the modified beep test yesterday and it was really titing but a good workout. The most rest i took in a row was one. i was drenched in sweat after but it felt nice after we finished, having a sense of accomplishment.

Ice Skating

Last Monday, we went ice skating and there was only about 10 of us and we had the whole arena to ourselves! It was so much fun because i haven't gone skating since january and it's something i really enjoy doing. I skated for the whole time and it was a lot of fun skating with my friends.
I'm also more comfortable taking public transit!

Interim Report

So far after a month of Get Fit, im really glad i took Get Fit,
and it's a lot of fun.
All the girls in my class really motivate me, because we all know we took Get Fit
instead of regular P.E. and we all work really hard.
I've been improving in my endurance, especially when we're doing the community run.
I've cut my time from last year by seven minutes!
In this class, im always optimistic, and i think it's partly because of my friends and classmates.
I always come with a good attitude and respect towards active learning.
I try new things and always try to do my best.
I hope to get to mid level 9 on the beep test, and to get under 20 minutes on the community run.
I'm looking forward to many upcoming field trips, especially snowshoeing on Mt. Seymour! :)

First Month in Get Fit

Last Wednesday, we went to Splitz Gymnastics.
I finally got to see my banner from 2009!
It was my first time seeing it because i moved gyms and never
had the chance to see it hung up!
It was a lot of fun, doing flips everywhere, and I really liked the trampoline!

A while back, we did the full community run, and it was really tiring,
but i finished it in 20 minutes. I was really proud, but the next day my legs were so sore.

We've done zumba twice, and we also did bhangra today,
which was also a lot of fun.
